Hi,

The first inklings of Fall bring several changes for us...

    • Introducing our new, streamlined CFW monthly communication!
    • NYC-metro folks -- this email is designed for you. Expect one more email each month per vocation group as an event reminder.
    • Live outside NYC? -- email cfw@redeemer.com to ensure that, instead, you receive our monthly CFW ministry update.
    • To confirm that you are on the list for one of our vocation groups, email us as well.
    • Other CFW changes: Our Executive Director, Katherine Leary was married to John Alsdorf on June 26! Sadly, we've said goodbye to both Sonja Chen and Luann Jennings. They will be greatly missed
On behalf of Katherine Leary Alsdorf and the rest of the CFW staff, we look forward to an exciting month ahead. May the Lord permeate your work as the beauty of the gospel pours forth.

LUANN JENNINGS is a theatre director, arts administrator, acting instructor and arts educator, who founded Redeemer's Arts Ministry in 2004 and served as its first director. In August, Luann left her position at Redeemer to pursue other creative and ministry opportunities, and is currently teaching drama and public speaking classes at St. John's University in Queens.

She is also developing a new project, Church & Art Network, to bring together leaders of ministries, organizations, and seminaries that are working at the intersection of the arts and faith, particularly in order to share their knowledge and experience with churches and Christian schools that are developing arts programs. To learn more and get on the email list, visit www.churchandart.org.

Luann thanks Maria and Kenyon, all of the volunteer leaders, and the other artists and Redeemerites who made her six years at the helm of the Arts Ministry so rewarding. "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowlege and all discernment..." (Phil 1:9)

WHY A CENTER FOR FAITH AND WORK
by:
Katherine Leary Alsdorf

One of the things Martin Luther made very clear 400 years ago was that a "priestly calling" was in no way more pleasing to God than any other calling or vocation. No one's role or vocation - from Tim Keller's to the most recent college grad - is more important than another in the eyes of God. When the church, as "the priesthood of all believers," aims to bring Christ-centered cultural renewal to the city, we mean for all the people of the church to join in doing that - in our various neighborhoods, social circles, and vocations.

GOSPEL & CULTURE LECTURES:
Last spring, N.T. Wright inaugurated our new lecture series which will culminate in a weekend conference on the topic of faith and work in Fall 2011. The lectures will be held one Sunday afternoon per month at Hunter College.

Each month features a renowned speaker who will help us understand:
    • Why our work matters in light of Redemption
    • Why theology is critical in the effective and nuanced engagement of our work
    • Why community is necessary for keeping our vision and perspective, and
    • Why the motivations and desires of our hearts lie at the core of our effective service
