Redemptive Advertising?  Why Not? with Dr. Quentin Schultze
Marketing, especially advertising, has become a whipping boy for those who disdain consumerism and question the ethics of public persuasion. Yet the public generally enjoys winsome and creative forms of advertising--sometimes more than the actual products. Why the gap between criticism and enjoyment? How can faith help us navigate this contested cultural terrain?

Quentin Schultze holds an MA in Advertising as well as a PhD in communications from the University of Illinois. He serves as executive director of the Gainey Institute for Faith and Communication and as the Arthur H. DeKruyter Chair in Faith and Communication at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His many books include two forthcoming titles: The Suburban Church: Practical Advice for Authentic Ministry with successful Chicago suburban church pastor Dr. Arthur H. DeKruyter; and Understanding Evangelical Media: The Changing Face of Christian Communication (InterVarsity Press) with over 40 contributors addressing everything from Bible theme parks to blogging, advertising, and public relations.

The event will start with hors d'oeuvres and networking. The event will be held at the Redeemer Offices, 1359 Broadway, 4th Floor. (Map)
