Gene Schmidt moved to New York in 1997 to attend the graduate fine arts program at the School of Visual Arts. He is a Redeemer member and lives in Astoria with his wife Jocelyn and son Justus.
Two years ago Gene began a performance/sculpture/pilgrimage called Manhattan Measure, measuring the width and length of Manhattan with yardsticks. The project was documented by Redeemer photographer Alicia Hansen. A documentary film about Manhattan Measure will be screened at the Big Apple Film Festival on November 21.
The Artist Spotlight is an opportunity for us to get to know other artists within the extended Redeemer community, and to support them in their professional endeavors. Please contact arts@redeemer.com if you would like to suggest someone or be a spotlighted artist.
