Hi,

This city offers many challenges to artists, one such being, how to not just survive, but flourish, in an overpriced, competitive, and time-starved culture.

The Center for Faith and Work helps address this problem by establishing places for artists to be known in community. You don't have to struggle with career and faith on your own. Our monthly vocation groups (see dates below) are where we figure out together what it means to follow Christ in our particular fields.

Welcome to New York, stay in New York, and become a community of believers in New York!

Kenyon and Maria

Spotlight

Trevor BabcockTrevor Babcock moved to New York City in the fall of 2006 to pursue a Master's in Literature at NYU. He began attending Redeemer and became involved as a leader of CFW's Writers' Group in order to surround himself with like-hearted artists. The community of believers he found there helped his journey through a process of spiritual healing following a successful battle with cancer that would influence much of his work.

Trevor's work to date has been within the genres of poetry and short fiction, but his greater literary ambition includes finishing his historical/science fiction novel.  His work is featured in RedeemerWrites 3.  Pray for him as he navigates a new city, a new marriage, and a new course of study at Indiana University.

Opportunities

The Screwtape Letters, featuring Redeemer's very own, Max McLean, has a special offer for the Redeemer community available through Nov. 30.

Culture Club: Shakespeare's Globe Theater  The Culture Club creates opportunities for our congregation to learn about and experience the range of arts events that New York City has to offer. Join us on Nov. 6 for The Merry Wives of Windsor.

FALL REVIEW
This fall we experienced our largest IAF, a visually dynamic Juried exhibition, the addition of two vocation groups, the latest edition of RedeemerWrites, and we were encouraged by the outcome of our first faith and art study series, In the Living Room. The 7-week pilot program brought 20 artists together who examined their roles as disciples, theologians, creators, and servants. Sharing insights, artworks, and experiences, artists deepen their understandings of how to live the creative life faithfully.

POWER
by: Katherine Leary Alsdorf

Many of us may know what the third temptation of Jesus was - the temptation of power. (Matthew 4:8-11)  The temptation of power lures each of us daily, especially in our work lives but probably in every single human interaction. What causes or enables power? Why don't Christians want to discuss it? How does power shape us? What privilege comes with power? How do we think about power in light of how Jesus claimed it and used it? Read Full Article
