Hello,

"Behold, I am making all things new."

These revolutionary words of Christ are the reason we have such great hope for our work as artists. Christ's re-creating work in the world can now include our own work as well. Through the power of the gospel Christ is restoring our callings, something we lost through the rebellious act in the garden of Eden. But Christ is bringing humanity back!

This month many of our vocation groups will consider this renewed calling and reflect on the role of “The Artist as Creator.” When we realize we cannot make art to glorify God without the cross, true transformation will occur. This month join a vocation group discussion, listen to Adrienne Chaplin's talk from the Gospel & Culture Lecture Series and stay connected to the ongoing dialogue by reading our weekly blog.

See you soon at Arts Ministries!

I came to NYC about 11 years ago with the West End production of The Real Thing. As I am half American and able to work in this country, I obtained representation and returned with another play, the Sir Peter Hall Company production of As You Like It. When I booked a THIRD London show that traveled to NYC, I thought 'why not stay a while and see what happens?' I had no idea that six years later I would still be here!

My faith has certainly helped me survive and make sense of this career. It can be a very selfish industry, with an 'it's all about me and my success' mentality. My faith is in the fact that my career is in God's hands. This knowledge has helped me cope with the many rejections associated with this line of work. Knowing that I work in order to serve God in whatever way he wants to use me is very comforting, and makes sense of this egotistical business! Whether that be entertaining and bringing joy to an audience or in the way in which I interact with company members as a witness to God, I firmly believe that artists are given their gifts in order to be God-serving, not self-serving.

TOWARDS TRANSFORMING LAW
by: Hyun Sim
Lawyers often claim the dubious honor of being the most dissatisfied with their jobs. Attorneys complain about the long hours, constant stress, and their lack of contribution to societal good.
