Hello,

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. ~ Isaiah 43:19.

This year we look forward to witnessing God's continued work of RE-CREATION in the hearts of artists, in the arts communities of New York City and in the culture at large. In January, many people will move to New York for the very first time. This is a great time to invite someone to InterArts Fellowship. God is on the move in New York City, bringing artists back into the church. Let's reach out so that artists we know can join the dialogue through IAF gatherings, Arts Vocation Groups and the Redeemer Arts Blog.

Happy New Year,

Kenyon and Maria

Lauren Waisanen

Lauren Davis Waisanen and her husband recently re-located to NYC from LA where she worked as a non-profit fundraiser and event planner, actress, and musician. She and her husband began attending Redeemer with friends and jumped right into the arts ministry by attending the faith and art study series In the Living Room. In 2010, Lauren integrated her creative abilities and artistic experiences with her faith by co-founding The Fuller Company, a theater production company through Fuller Theological seminary. Lauren produced their inaugural production, THREE (is company).

FALL REVIEW
This fall we experienced our largest IAF, a visually dynamic Juried exhibition, the addition of two vocation groups, the latest edition of RedeemerWrites, and we were encouraged by the outcome of our first faith and art study series, In the Living Room. The 7-week pilot program brought 20 artists together who examined their roles as disciples, theologians, creators, and servants. Sharing insights, artworks, and experiences, artists deepen their understandings of how to live the creative life faithfully.

WORK AND CULTURAL RENEWAL
by: Tim Keller
I am often asked: “Should Christians be involved in shaping culture?” My answer is that we can’t not be involved in shaping culture. To illustrate this, I offer a very sad example. In the years leading up to the Civil War many southerners resented the interference of the abolitionists, who were calling on Christians to stamp out the sin of slavery. In response, some churches began to assert that it was not the church’s (nor Christians’) job to try to “change culture” but only to preach the gospel and see souls saved. The tragic irony was that these churches were shaping culture. Their very insistence that Christians should not be changing culture meant that those churches were supporting the social status quo.
