Hello,

Creating is a faith act. Faith consents to ambiguity and follows mystery. Faith inquires, but requires no answer. Faith enjoys reason, but moves beyond it. Through the creative process artists exercise their faith muscle equipping them to follow the uniqueness of a Triune God. It’s time for artists to become aware of their faith strength.

The church needs both systematic theology and the contingent language of art to speak of a kingdom that cannot adequately or fully be described. God calls artists to share their particular faith training in order to edify, strengthen, and shape believers. By possessing faith we invite the inexplicable—that Jesus’ beauty will rest upon his church.

Be faithful,

Kenyon and Maria

Spotlight

David Chang

As an artist trained in Western calligraphy, I am interested in furthering the idea and the art of writing. In my current work, made in a church, I utilize the notion of hermeneutics for my visual investigations of scripture. In naming the show "Sacred Dialogues," I refer to the spiritual dialogue initiated from scripture reading, ritual prayer, and the process of creating. I believe as missional artists our work should lend a sense of service to the viewer. This is what I hope to achieve with each of my pieces.

WHY WE NEED ARTISTS
by: Tim Keller
Why does the Church and why does Christianity need artists? While we have artists because they have the ability to see the greater reality, we need artists because… we can’t understand truth without art. You see, reason tells me about the truth, but I really cannot grasp what it means; I can’t understand it without art... Unless you take a truth and you image it – which of course is art – you don’t know what it means. If you cannot visualize it, you don’t have a sense of it on your heart.
