December 2011 Be Known Create Engage Arts Ministry Arts Ministry Blog Arts News Archive ![]() |
Hello,
Chiaroscuro, the artistic term that designates the use of light and dark, is a quality found in Luke’s Christmas narrative. Shepherds living in a blackened field are frightened awake by an assault of shining reality. Good news, the Lord is near. Likewise, our darkened hearts rush when we encounter the living God, illuminating possibilities, igniting bright recognition in our darkened minds. An infant, like a germ of an idea, enables life to unfold into wondrous possibilities. News of this baby turns fright into adoration. Through art we become messengers in the dark, witnesses of light, always returning to the darkened field with true praise. This Advent, do not be afraid of the dark; make art. Sincerely, ![]() |
![]() Warren Jackson Warren finds the challenge of being an artist as both fulfilling and threatening, for it is through his struggles as an actor he frequently finds himself in the presence of God. Attending last year’s vocation group Christmas party, Warren was drawn by the palpable Spirit that flowed among the many artists. Here, amid like-minded individuals he felt fed. Hailing from the Chicago theater scene, Warren’s NY area acting credits include Romeo and Juliet, Aquila Theater and The Clandestine Marriage, Centenary Stage Company. Regional work includes Fences, Clarence Brown Theater (TN) and The Tempest, NC Shakespeare Festival. He has received various award nominations for several of his Chicago works. He holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Arizona. He is currently rehearsing a production of Thornton Wilder’s The Long Christmas Dinner in Brooklyn’s Old Stone House. His prayer request is for the peace that comes from knowing who is ultimately in control. Artists & designers - do you want to leave your mark at the West 83rd St. Redeemer Worship site?
