About the Mini Courses

About the Summer Mini Courses

What:

The Summer Mini Courses are fun and informative classes taught by members of the Redeemer
community.  With the diverse range of classes, we hope you find something that interests you!

Why:
Let’s face it, Redeemer is a pretty big church. With five services and a congregation that is spread out across the city, it can be hard to meet people. The Summer Mini Courses were created to help foster community in a new and fun way during a typically lighter programming season for Redeemer.

Who:
The Summer Mini Courses are for everyone.

  • If you are new to Redeemer and don’t know anyone, the Mini Courses are a great opportunity for you to meet new friends.
  • If you’ve been coming for awhile but feel like you only know people in your Fellowship Group, the mini courses will allow you to meet others who share your interests.
  • If you’re already connected and you've been around for awhile, how about bringing a friend who doesn’t attend Redeemer with you to a mini course so they can get a feel for the church?

When:
The classes begin in early June and go until the end of August.  Check out the calendar for more info.

Where:
The classes are taught around the city; check the course catalog for locations.

Registration Process and Lottery

Registration will begin in early May. You can register through the course catalog page at that time by clicking on the link next to the class.

This year, there will be some classes that will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis and others that have a lottery system to select who attends the class. The lottery prevents those earliest to register from filling all of the classes.

Lottery classes will have an open sign up process that begins with the rest of registration on May 9th. Individuals can sign up to be eligible for lottery classes by completing the lottery form. The lottery process will close at 12PM on Tuesday, May 13th. Individuals will be notified if they were selected for classes by Wednesday evening, May 14th and they must register for their class by Friday, May 16th or they will lose their spots.

Any unfilled spots will be given to remaining lottery entrants, and then from the congregation at large. Email summer@redeemer.com to be put on the waiting list after the lottery has closed.  Go to the lottery.

All registration will be conducted online through Redeemer’s secure web store.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of classes are offered?

All kinds. Both fun and practical. The idea is to provide classes that will be of interest or of use to our congregation. To get a sense of the program, check out our course catalog.

Who teaches the Mini Courses?
Mini Courses are taught by individuals in the Redeemer congregation with expertise in various industries / hobbies / subjects that are useful to the congregation.

Why do the Mini Courses cost money to attend?
The fees collected for the classes go strictly towards class expenses: class materials (including ingredients for the cooking classes), printing costs, rental fees, and administrative expenses. In fact, your lovely teachers don’t even get paid! They graciously volunteer their time, so please be sure to thank them when you see them.

Why is there a lottery system for some of the classes?
Because the classes fill up fast.  In the past, a few people were able to register for 6-8 classes right as registration opened. Many people who later came to the site didn’t have a chance to attend a class. The lottery helps ensure that more people have the chance of attending a mini course this summer.

I’ve got a great idea for a mini course. Can I teach it?
Our classes are set for this summer. However, we encourage you to let us know about your idea as we could always offer your class next summer. Please click here to learn more about teaching a class.
